Over the summer, Courtney Love traveled to Florence, Italy to perform with the Rockin’1000, a group of now 1,5000 musicians. During the show, Love and her new, very large backing band performed the Hole classic “Celebrity Skin” together. Footage from the collaboration is now streaming on YouTube.
You may remember the Rockin’1000 from that viral 2015 video that showed 1,000 musicians simultaneously playing the Foo Fighters hit “Learn to Fly” in an effort to convince Dave Grohl and company to play a show in Cesena, Italy.
The clip, which has racked up over 46 million views, caught the attention of the Foos, and they played their first show in Cesena later that year. Turns out the clip caught Love’s attention, too.
“The first time I saw the Rockin’1000 video, I thought, ‘I want to do that!’” Love says. “The sight and sound of a thousand musicians connecting with their audience in this open, trans-cultural way was incredible. It reminded me of the early punk scene, with its community centered around diversity and acceptance.”
Love also performed “Celebrity Skin” with the song’s co-writer, Billy Corgan, at the Smashing Pumpkins 30th anniversary show in August.
